Re: Trout Season
I have one funny story about trout fishing a stream in PA when I was 17...
Ok so I was wading in my shorts and a T-shirt, up to my waste in some rough water, just down stream from a deep pool that was flat calm. after working my way up and down the stretch I was fishing I decided to try the calm water... I could see fish rising all over the place.. it was increadible... but it was too deep to get too and the bank was solid pricker brush.. I couldn't take it, I waded out to my chest with my fly rod and laid my fly down over, and over, and over. The trout were locked in on the mayfly and I didn't have one... Grrrr...
So after a frustrating hour of trying to catch these trout I started making my way back to where I could get out of the stream.. as I entered the rougher water I lost my footing and was instantly knocked off my feet.. I went completely under water and was being swept down stream only a few feet above my pride..
I had traveled a good 25 yards in a sprawled out horizontal possition.... flailing and rolling to catch my footing, finally I was able to right myself. I shook my head like a wet dog, and quickly did a once over to make sure I was in one piece... luckily throughout the ordeal I didn't let go of my fly rod... what a relief, that would have been too much to take...
So I lifted my fly rod out of the water and recovered the loop that had run off the reel... totally convinced my fly had snapped off on some snag up stream.. No, my fly hadn't snapped off, as a matter of fact there was a rainbow trout hooked to it... Unbelievable, I couldn't get a trout to bite my fly in over an hour of trying, yet I fall in that same stream and a trout takes my fly.... TRUE STORY
