Anybody DIY?
I'm a tinker-er. My junk, my frijole-jole, hell even my pi hole.
Been wrapping rods for a few years now:
Here is one I am working on now. It's a 7' Lamiglas freshwater crankbait blank. Pac bay Minima seat. Hypalon covered in x-shrink.
Few nights ago I whipped out a 3 color diamond wrap. Gold, silver, red. I'm not thrilled with it so it's going to be wrapped over with translucent thread and made the backdrop for the logo/rod/specs/signature area of the blank.
I'll keep updating this build as it progresses. My original idea for this blank was to mimic a traditional katana design. We'll see how that pans out.
My other project is tying up some hair jigs for a friend of a friend.
That was the first time I ever tied those. I made a hell of a mess with that bucktail. Took me forever to clean all the trimmings out of my pubes.

I think it's really cool that some of San Diego stuck to you.... Personally I don't read, or look at any of it anymore...
I use to make rods with just a cardboard box and spin the blank by hand... although I was doing simple 2 color, double wrapped guides...

I keep up with the BD rodbuilding forum. Some real talent in there. Doc Ski, Capt. G., Bill (Saltydawg), Jim T., etc. Cool kats that have helped me out a TON, and continue to set the bar higher. I'll never be as good as those guys, but trying is what keeps my game up.
I did my first few on a box also, phone books for thread tension. lol
I built my wrapper myself, only bought the roller rod carriages because the felt-lined ones I made kept leaving felty lint all over my wraps. (grr) Once that stuff dries it's like trying to get schmegma out of the folds in your foreskin.
It's a cool hobby for when I don't have the time to get on the water.
I'm going to try to get around to working that abalone shell into the split grip this weekend. I'm laying it down over holo-mirrored mylar film. I'm hoping it gives it more depth and some color change at different angles.
Did you say you have a lathe? I should build one of those too. I have all the parts, and some plans, I just need to get around to putting them together. Would be nice to turn some cork and maybe wood handles.

Yes sir I do, and a bandsaw, tablesaw, chop saw, sawsall, drill press, grinder, router, shop fan, 2 air compressors, and a 45hp dildo...

Re: Anybody DIY?
How about this 1974 bronco for a DIY. I did an off frame restore. A three year project. My wife calls it my toy truck.

Bob - You should go:

I think I am wrapping a rod that will be judged in a rod-build-off and donated to the Rods for Soldiers program.
