Ok guys, I love eating frog legs... they really are just like little chicken legs.... but, the restaurant I use to get them at stopped offering them..

How would I go about gigging some, and what are the best types of areas that hold numbers of big bullfrogs... can you eat other types of frogs?

Frog Giggin Empty Frog Giggin

Splash over the last 15 years we have had some major highways built through our county and in doing so the state used local farm land to provide the dirt for the road beds. When all was said and done there are ponds/lakes everywhere along the highways. They make excellent frog habitat. We did not reinvent the wheel with our method of gigging but it is very effective. I have a 12' aluminum john boat, which I can slide right in the back of my truck for easy access to any pond. Here is how I have it equipped. I made a gig from a bambo pole (light weight). I took a three prong flounder gig and attached it to the 8' bamboo pole with apoxy. I have a variable speed trolling motor mounted to the stern of the boat. This is an old trolling motor from Sears that for reverse you simply turn it around, (a Ted Williams, thats how old). We use a 12 volt battery and a 100,000 watt Q-beam light to find and blind the frog while we motor in quietly for the kill. The front man doing the gigging sets up on his knees and the motor man slides him right up to the frog. The reason for the 8' pole is we have a lot of overhanging limbs from the bank and the length allows us to reach what would be otherwise lost frogs. We also found a cool way to save ones knees from the aluminum boat. We use masonary pads. You can find them at Lowes/Home Depot or your Local Ace store. We place a cutting board on the middle seat with sharp knife handy. After the front man gigs a frog he simply passes it back to the middle seat where the motor man is ready with the knife. Because the frog is already secured to the gig all you have to do is grab the frog and cut his back legs off. This way the frog is not jumping all over the place while your trying to put him a bag. After removing his leggs you can simply pull him off and dispose of him right there and at the same time feeding more wildlife. After you get home the only mess you have is the skin from the leggs. Cool

Gary that sounds similar to the way I use to Lobster fish.... when I wasn't diving for them..

I want to go gig, but nowadays I bet I'd get shot at or arrested for breaking some sort of weird socker mom law...
